The XVI is a great machine. I love mine and play it often. Yours looks to be in very nice condition.

Thank you, Henry, the more I look it over, the luckier I feel. I waited for a very long time to finally get one, and buying this one was a leap of faith for me. I can usually tell the difference between trash and treasure, but I'm no expert. I paid $250 for it, the price on CL around here for much less quality units.

It needs a couple of things, the proper crank, escutcheon, rubber mount for the reproducer, reproducer rebuild and, of course needles. I will endeavour to put this machine completely right.

I forgot to add a photo of the doors open, it came with quite a few 78's, too. I already had a couple of hundred, now I will have to inspect and catalogue them.

The left volume door, at the bottom hinge, has been repaired but there is no other damage to the cabinet.

Great looking XVI. The one you have was the immediate successor to the L-door machines. They were first shipped in August of 1912 and is the only type of XVI to have full width upper doors which makes it somewhat unique. The automatic brake was installed on this model after s/n 72077, so this machine is entirely correct without it. I had one just like yours for a while and it was the best sounding Victrola I ever owned. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info, phonojim, it's really interesting to note the doors. I figured it was an early version because of the SN and label date, but, didn't realize the design change. Now that I look at other pictures, I see that.

The pre-1917 XVI always has a sense of Edwardian elegance. And also a large record storage compartment to store the ever expanding collection of acoustic disc you no doubt will be acquiring.

Nice I really like Oak! I don't know where I'm going to put all the machines I suddenly find myself wanting to try. There's a VI on CL that looks pretty nice...

I've not used the product, but it seems to be well thought-out. Note that you have to send your old flange's brass core so they can form the new flange around it.

You'll certainly need replacement front gaskets, and possibly (depending on its condition) a new mica diaphragm. Also beeswax. There are several sources for these items. I like the gaskets that Victrola Repair Service used on my Exh. (http://www.victrolarepairservice.com/index.html); perhaps they will sell you the material separately. You could also try http://www.antiquephono.com/victor.htm . They sell a whole rebuild kit, with diaphragm, gaskets, and wax, for $9.50---not bad!

Well, I ordered the rubber flange and needles from Tim F. and sent out an email for the reproducer rebuild kit. I'm getting kind of excited about this old girl.
