NEFaurora wrote:"Gojo" is an automotive mechanics hand cleaner. Believe it or not, It is almost identical to "Kotton Kleanser", and I less than ¼ the price! You want to get the "Original" Gojo. , Not the Pumice type or the orange type, You must use the original if possible.

Don't know if "Gojo" is sold in Europe... You can also order some from the web if need be.

And GoJo does kill mold. My 10-50 had mold all over its cabinet. After cleaning with GoJo and polishing, no mold. 10 years on that one and counting!

Okay. Gojo does kill mold. Does it get rid of the musty smell, too?

Grease, old oil, musty odors, it all smells good to us. :) (You might want to clean more than just the outside to eliminate the musty smell.) Jerry

So cool to find an original machine, this way you know its all how it came originally. I would not do any intense restorations like refinishing or replating or repainting. Just get it cleaned up with the solid advice given already and enjoy. Its hard to find machines that havent been cobbled together.

GoJo contains petroleum distillates, which kills mold by suffocating it. If you've ever spilled gasoline or kerosene on your hands, you'd notice that it dries out your skin, much like it does to the mold.

Garret,
Congrats on finding such a nice machine in original condition. Under all that dirt should be something like this:

Dave,

That machine looks very nice!!!

What product did you apply to the horn to make it so shinny. I also have a VIC II project machine and after looking at your photos I am going to start working on it very soon.

Francisco,
I used a product called Meguar's Mirror Glaze car polish. I apply it with a soft cotton cloth doing small sections at a time and buff out with another soft cloth. It is really good at removeing the grime and leaves a nice finish. I also use this stuff on bedplates.
Here's a link to the product:
