I'd agree that I'm too impatient. I'm sure it will come along, but why not drive to Union, and grab it when I have a chance (before the Mrs. changes her mind).

I'd also agree that I loved Whoopinola's post and would just like to say for the record I'm a very honest person (too a fault probably) and am just curious as to what the rules are when border crossing. I never really shop across the border accept by internet and usually never get charged duty.

This is the first Credenza I have seen locally (after roughly 6 months of searching),
and it really isn't THAT local as it's about a 10 hour drive from Toronto.

I understand your frustration. I wish we had something like Union in Southern Ontario. Alas, trolling Kijiji and networking through contacts is our lot. However I found my beautiful Credenza on Kijiji so it does happen; "...but not punctually".

As a retired Tax Inspector I can also speak from experience.

If you ask a seller to write you a receipt for less than you actually paid, many will be only too willing to oblige, especially if you are paying in cash. They will then declare the lower figure in their accounts and pocket the difference.

Hi Jerry!

Just wanted to say you're sounding pretty chipper considering you were just mugged in the Philippines yesterday...

Actually, I wanted to make you aware that somebody is spoofing your email address as I just got this email today allegedly from you:

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,my family and I came down here to Manila Philippines for a short vacation unfortunately we got mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed, all cash, credit card and cell were stolen off us but luckily for us we still have our passports with us.

We've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping the issues at all and our return flight leaves in few hours from now but we're having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills,

I'm freaked out at the moment and i need your urgent help.

Thought I'd let you know in case others may have conversed with you outside of this forum through email and received the same message. :rose:

Hi Tinkerbell,
in fact, this might have been caused by virus/malware/phishing code either on your PC, on Jerry's PC, or on any PC that has both your email addresses in the local email address book. These bad programs use locally stored email addresses to spoof emails to all other addresses. There are many variations out there. I would advise both of you to check your computers with up to date scanning software (McAfee, Norton, MS security Essentials, etc). You can find descriptions of similar scams with a simple google search. Make sure to scan and change passwords once confirmed that it's clean.

Thanks, Andreas. Actually, since I do some work in IT, my systems are all scanned nightly, and I use a random password generator so passwords are always changed. That said, as a safeguard, I performed another scan today. All good here.

Is there no customs duty exemption in Canada on antiques? Here in the USA, you can import, duty free, anything more than 100 years old. You do still have to declare the value, but it does not count towards your usual exemptions.

There was/is an exemption of duty on antiques of 100 years plus..at the time of my tale , 25 years ago, most gramophones were not exempt as they were not yet of age...As of today, anything US made is duty free under the NA Free Trade Tarrif..but that doesn't exempt the sales tax , and I'm not sure , being out of the loop for 10 years, that antiques are exempt of sales tax now, no matter how old they are.
