Why are so many Edison Disc machines for sale?

I am holding out for an Amberola 1A.

It is going to be a long wait....maybe infinitely
long.

I would consider other Amberolas, but I want
one that has 2/4 gearing and interchangeable
or a flip-over reproducer.

In my limited experience, it seems to me that the 1A is most commonly found with a Diamond A, which is only for 4 minute celluloid cylinders. You'd also have to locate an M reproducer to play 2 minute records, but that flips over to let you play 4 minute wax and celluloid. You'll only find this on ebay 4-5 times a year and most go for close to $1000 in good condition. I bought my M before I bought my 1A, knowing I'd have no problem getting my money back if I didn't find a 1A at a good price...

#2, the H-19 works fine except the lateral/Pathé adaptor is stuck in the horn. The diamond stylus is toast.

#9, the A-100 spins uncontrollably, the motor is covered in rust, and the diamond stylus is toast.

Also picked up their Cecilian portable.

The same seller for all three, very happy to take my lowball offer.
