$1750 for a BKT? wow...I figure they're worth about ½ that. I will have one with 2/4 gearing and nickle horn at wayne, as well as Babson cabinet with Amberola 30, a couple cylinder record cabinets, a some other odds and ends. And probably some 'box lots' of average cylinder records. I just bought another phonograph that I want to keep, and my wife and I have an agreement that if something new comes into the house, something old has to go....

Personally I find the best deals on Saturday at the parking lot.

We usually travel down the day before and catch the pre-show in the parking lot that runs in the early afternoon. I've snagged some good records that probably wouldn't have made it to the next day.
Saturday night we head over to Charley Hummel's home. That is always a highlight of the show for me as he is a fantastic host with mucho cool and rare items that you never get tired of seeing and hearing.
As far as the extra admission for the early bird, I've done it a few times but found it wasn't worth it for me personally as I'd rather put it towards records or accessories that I know will be there anyway, more than likely. By the time most of the dealers set up so you can really see things, the regular entrance time has arrived, unless you are looking for a larger item like a machine or cabinet.

Hmm, can't recall such high prices in average over the last Wayne shows. Antique store price stories are usually something I have heard frequently from Union Show visitors, which made me avoiding the expenses to attend it.

Of course, I'd also like to know what will there before I book my flight to New York ...

My wife and I will be traveling to the Wayne show this year and are planning to arrive Saturday evening so we will likely miss the parking lot sale. We are interested in meeting Charley Hummel and viewing his collection.
How does one attain an invite to his house for Saturday Evening?

Every show is a little different but the things I buy at Union, I never see in an antique shop. The things that come quickly to my mind are:
Double bow front cylinder record cabinet
Glass sided Zonophone A
#10 Victor reproducer
Large rear mount Zonophone with matching mahogany Music Master horn
Vernis Martin XVI
Berliner Trademark

I think if you go to Wayne or any other show, it is generally safe to assume that if you are looking to add to your collection a Berliner Trademark, that you already know what is fair market value and the chance of finding a "deal" among 50 to 100 collectors is slim. HOWEVER if you want to add the phonograph object of your desire TO YOUR COLLECTION at fair market value Wayne, Union and any of the phonograph shows are usually excellent venues. The odds of finding a machine or parts are much higher since it is a specific show type.

Deals can likely be found on more common machines, but they are less likely to show up due to the expense of participating in shows. You cant sell enough $200 items to pay for gas, hotel, booth and food to make the math work.Just my 2 cents worth.
