I think that they're fake, they are all exactly the same size, and the ones I bought in souvenir shops as a child did not say Facsimile on them. Even if they are genuine their value as currency has been rendered nil.

EDIT: I work in a museum with quite a lot of vintage currency, including Confederate bills. There was little standardization of size since individual states and banks issued their own currency. The uniform brown color of the bills is also a warning sign- in this case a good one because it means that if you wish you can strip them off the top with no loss to history.

I remember those fake souvenir bills, too. They came in a paper envelope with a clear cellophane window on the front and they smelled strongly of acetic acid, which was probably used in the aging process. And they were not marked 'Facsimile'.

They aren't all the same size or color, it just appears that way from the angle and the fact that I took the pic with my phone... I'll take better pics of the individual bills.

Also, whether real or not, I realize they have no value since being glued on and finished over.
