This is a timely subject, at least for me: just the other day, I had an electric light in my hand (one of those socket-on-a-cord thingies) and out of curiosity, I held it inside a red Columbia/Standard horn. Wow, I thought, this would make a LOUSY lamp !

Long time ago went to an auction, while strolling around the auction grounds I looked in a barn and there stood a C250, partially disassembled but in great condition. Owner said he was not going to put it in the auction but later relented - I eventually bought it for $80 or so.

Right after I won the C250 the auctioneer held up the internal horn from the C250 and before I discovered it was from the machine I bought, it was sold to a women for $20.

Explained to the woman it belonged to my purchase, tough luck was the response, I'm going to make a cornucopia out of it. I offered her $60 to no avail. @%#$$&*

At the end of the day I bought a completely destroyed smaller Edison for $1. The reproducer was immaculate and sounds like a charm. Day was not a total loss. Eventually got the C250 horn from George v.

it really boils my blood when people dont care about history, at least it wasnt a very rare machine!

If it was I would have grabbed it and the authorities would still be looking for me. Sort of like the Sienfeld show of past when he stole that loaf of marble rye bread from the old woman and hauled you know what
