If you have some time with nothing to do, you can get a thick piece of plexiglass and put it between the metal caps where the fiber used to reside. File it until it is round to match the two ends; arrange the two brass ends to match the original gear pitch and clamp and glue. When dry, use a triangular file of that matches the pitch of the gear teeth and carefully file the plastic to match the brass gear teeth. I used a slim flat file and did each side in turn. Slow but it works and has in a Rishell for about 36 years now. BTW, circuit board material is made of the same material as the original fiber gears.
