Yes or no on this edison DD phonograh?

The bedplate is in pretty good condition, the records are all in good shape for the most part, a little dusty but nothing that cant be cleaned. their are a few records which are warped and cracked but that only apply's to maybe 6 records out of all them.

Seems like a reasonable price to me then!

The diaphragm link appears to have been replaced by a hunk of copper wire - that's probably why it won't play properly. That said, it does look like a pretty nice cabinet, and with up to 100 records, the price is not bad.

The adapters with original box sell for $75-$100 dollars. These are pretty machines. I love the maroon bedplate mine has.

There's one little detail that no one ever seems to mention. I don't know if it's from ignorance of early DD machines or what, but A machines are not like later DD machines. If you are going to carry it horizontally, you instantly damage the motor and the cabinet. On A DD's, the motor is not attached to the cabinet, so the motor will fall out and damage either itself and/or the cabinet. Also, you should never ship one of these phonos with the motor in place. It will bounce all over the place damaging the cabinet as well as the horn and horn neck. Remove the motor before moving the cabinet. You will need to remove the crank and disconnect the horn. Then you can lift the motor out. Good luck.

First off remove the reproducer and turn table, next unscrew the screws to the horn lift handle, first note the position and height, mark with marker if you can before disassembly. Next unscrew the thumb screw and unhook the horn in the back, it is basically an oval cygnet horn. Unscrew the crank, opposite of winding it up. Next angle the front part of the horn out the front of the machine, care taken not to scrape the feed fan on the feed nut, lift the works on a slight angle, and line up the flat spots with the opening in the c shaped hinge opening, and pull out at an angle, you now should have all the works out of the cabinet.

Wow! thank you everyone for the responses and the warning of moving the phonograph incorrectly! This is my first time ever dealing with a Edison phonograph so this is all new to me, i'm to accustomed to just picking up my victrola's and carrying them saved me major headache. And thank you for all the wonderful details and pictures as well.

you exactly right , i figured that could not have been right! looked much to crude.. what could i use as a replacement diaphragm link or which replacement should i purchase off ebay? ive seen a few different ones.

The wood work is pretty ornate on this phonograph i think! & i bet maroon is just beautiful.
