Perennial problem with HMV 102s particularly those with Mazac governor parts ! Governor needs stripping down and rebuilding and if Mazak and still problematic Mazak inside needs slght filing

I don't know what the precise technical term is in Portuguese, but the governor is the fastest spinning part of the motor, which has weights mounted on springs and a disc on which the pads of the speed control rest.

There are bearings at either end, which can be loosened and adjusted to move this part backwards and forwards.

This is a governor from an HMV 102 , it is a Mazak bodied type rather than the brass bodied type and is most prone to have speed problems , the Mazak can expand thus trapping the body onto the spindle , it needs dismantling and cleaning and if necessary filing out inside , it is unliley that the springs need replacing but this can sometimes be the case

Dilermando, if your governor is indeed made of pot metal (or mazak for the Brits), you can recognize it by the wire that wraps around the top and bottom of the moving part (visible in the photo). My recommendation is to replace it with a governor made of brass, this is what I did when I bought a colonial model 113 that had speed fluctuation problems. Given my almost perfect record of failing when trying to fix pot metal parts, I decided simply to replace with the brass governor, that fitted perfectly and the machine now works with steady speed. HMV 102 brass governors are easy to find, I think Soundgen may help you to find one.
