By golly, John, you're right! Amberola, he means the lamp stem itself. Here's an original ad from the January 1921 "Talking Machine World" that shows the lamp stem as it should be.

I want a Modernola so bad. I passed on one at an auction a few years back and should have gotten it. It had the asian paint theme. These machines are much larger than they appear in photos too.

Moo, Bob Johnson had one with the pretty paint on the lids. He has passed away, but Paris Brice is helping Karen liquidate the collection. PM me if you want his number.
