I was just going to comment about one of these machines that I’d found moments ago while searching Craigslist (of which Brian had posted photos)—I’d thought fleetingly that it was ironic that I found the same machine (while not looking for it), before I realized that it was his listing.

(Brian, if you’d like, I’ll quote the listing inline or link it, if it hasn’t sold already.)

From the pictures (which can be seen in his post above), it’s a handsome machine in walnut.

yes, that's my machine on craigslist (and no, you don't have to bother posting it unless you really want to)... I've advertised it there a few times now, in the NJ, philadelphia and NY areas. so far, no takers. I'm imagining it's just not cheap enough (that, and the fact that it doesn't have a dog in the manufacturer's logo can be a killer price-wise for otherwise decent and rare machines). no big deal though... would just be nice to sell it for space purposes - it really is large... to give you an idea, look at the shot showing the interior of the playing area, that's a 12 inch turntable to give you some perspective.

I may as well link it in case anyone who might be interested missed it, and because by linking it, it’ll boost its position in search engines like Google—I don’t know if you’ve seen ‘Google [Bot]’ browsing the forum (Aaron and I were talking about it not long ago, as were Richard and I)—but we’re indexed at least once per day (Google last visited at 09:16 and Yahoo! 1 minute after) and currently 13.35% of our traffic comes from search engines.

RARE Antique Aeolian-Vocalion Phonograph VICTROLA - WALNUT, Restored (Woodbury, NJ)

This is a very rare phonograph, and this very machine is actually pictured in one of the more authoritative (coffee table book type) texts on the subject, Discovering Antique Phonographs, by Fabrizio and Paul. I can guarantee you won't find another. In my years of collecting, I've never come across or seen another, it's one of the more up-scale models produced by Aeolian-Vocalion, which was mainly a producer of pianos but during the late teens got into the phonograph business as well.

This is an oversized machine, taller and wider than the typical upright victrola, and it has a multi-toned walnut cabinet in the Jacobean style with completely original finish. The mechanism has been cleaned and re-oiled and plays exceptionally well. This player is also extremely versatile, has a swivelling reproducer/playing head that will play all types of discs with the proper needle - standard 78's with a disposable steel needle, Pathé discs with a saphire needle, even Edison diamond discs with the proper diamond-tipped needle. $950... believe me, you won't find another one of these... few were ever even made.
