you wouldn't by any chance be going to the wayne NJ show would you? and if so, would you consider picking up this edison and cabinet for me (if it's even still available) and bringing it along... we can work out some kind of compensation.

Brian...No, I'm not going to the Wayne show. It's too much of a hike. I think I need to Geography 101 with you guys. :D It's a long way to Tipperary ( or Toronto) from New Jersey. It's about an eight hour drive !

Well, even days after originally posting this, I read what MordEth said about the Canadian currency and realized I hadn't considered that and decided that this is something I wanted to pursue. ...so, I e-mailed the seller to see if it was still available and arranged to buy it, and I picked it up today! Yes, I drove from NJ to Canada and back in one day... but I'd say it's a pretty handsome set-up! :-)

For such a big machine it has this tiny little horn inside. ...but I played a few records and it does a nice job.

Stay tuned for videos!

Oh, another thing... the cabinet is LOCKED! LOL. The owner said he bought it from an estate sale and never got the key. So he had never opened it as well. It doesn't feel like there is anything in there. ...but would anyone be able to help me here? Do you think it would it be an Edison "E" / "dolphin" key?

Hey congratulations. I think you did real well with this. Very pretty color and even original grillcloth, although a bit tattered. If there had no been the issue of a small pond (Atlantic Ocean) between me and that machine, I might have beaten you too it! Cheers!

very nice machine, obviously matched to that cabinet since new. You did very well on price. I hope you can open the cabinet and find some great 52,000 series records inside. Excellent grab there.

Wonderful find Dean. I love these early Edisons, and to find the cabinet too was very lucky.
I found the same machine & cabinet (minus the legs) in an antique shop many years ago with a sold sticker on it
The dealer was selling the records separately, and amongst them were some of the card record dividers used in the drawers.
Good question about the key. I would have thought the Brunswick style key myself.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Hopefully those index tabs are in there! Maybe I can find a working key at the MME tomorrow.

Good luck with that. If nothing else, I suppose you could always get a locksmith to unlock it for you, although the correct key would be preferable.

Were these cabinets one-key-fits-all?

...by the way, I had no problem at the border.

On the way in, I used a printed copy of the craigslist ad as my "reason for coming to Canada". On the way out, the officer said he liked it, LOL.
