And it grew a lid. It crawled out of the dumpster… And now it's hungry… HUNGRY for PARTS!

Happy Halloween, everyone. :-)

Regardless of which of the oak finishes it is, this is a major stroke of good fortune. Congratulations!

You might touch base with George Vollema in the off chance that he has a door stashed away somewhere. I am amazed sometimes at what he can come up with.

The problem with a missing door on an oak cabinet is that Victor book-matched the oak veneers on the opposing doors (at least on the higher-end machines like the XVI). Finding another door for the XVI shouldn't be too difficult, but the doors will need to be re-veneered and book-matched to be authentic. :(

Worse yet, the sound doors are matched to the record storage doors, so to do the job right, all 4 doors should be re-veneered!

There's one big advantage of mahogany!

You might be able to get someone very skilled in faux graining to paint a new door - as a temporary expedient you could photograph the existing door and print out a reversed image to mount on plain wood. I wouldn't think this machine is worth new veneers on all four doors AND matching the finish.

I don't think its fumed oak. Maybe English Oak. I have some quarter sewn oak veneer somewhere if you need some. That's a really good find for anyone.

That is one beautiful machine. If you can't find a door from George or a dealer, I am wondering if you can go to a furniture refinishes or woodworker that can cut and have a door made and then some creativity with veneer to match. Those are the type and style of Victrola's that I really like.

Makes me want to go find a large elegant Victor floor model. :D

Presumably from the pictures posted all doors are with the machine , no ? One on the left and then one on the right and the lid so the machine is complete ?

There seems to be something not quite right with this whole thing. First post there is no lid and left lower door. Then, there is a left lower door and no right. Because the pull is not placed at the center point of a door (slightly higher) the door can't be just flipped. So, can you please tell us all what is going on with this???.
