Frank, a watchmaker/repair person might be able to help with removal of the diaphragm ring. Many pocket watches have such removable crystals (fronts) and backs. There must be some trade secrets that a skilled person could bring to bear upon the task. If you need a recommendation for someone in the Allentown area, drop me a PM.
