A double spring motor with springs of that size should be ok for at least four sides of a 10" record, maybe more.

The bumping sound from the regulator...Have you given the little leather pad that rides on the governor disc a good soaking in oil? If not, do so. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause this noise.

OK, it will do at least that, the springs were very strong, they were cleaned in an automotive cleaning bath (parts washer) and I'm using thin grease. In the end decided to use lots due to the thinness of the grease..

Ummmmmmmmm No I cleaned the oil off ! What sort of oil, I have many, many grades here !

Found the fault, one of the regulator screws was not tight. Found out why that was when it striped ! So I'm waiting for a tap now, it drilled out OK !

The thinner the better. Sewing machine oil is ideal, but not 3-in-1, that goes sticky after a while, and will cause more problems.
