Chuck;

I used to have an AF too, but sold it based on space limitations. Fascinating engineering!

I have to ask - how long does it take to fully wind a 6 spring motor - and how long does it play after being fully wound?

One ad stated it could play 14 records, no idea how long to fully wind the thing, not sure I really want to find out.....

Chuck,
While you have the digital camera out, please show a photo or two of the AF.
Thanks!

Great find, what a magnificent machine.

I bet if you mounted a four foot horn on your Columbia it would have enough power to warrant a noise complaint or two from your neighbours.

My BC fills that need.... (when it works)

Yes, it has six springs and is awesome engineering to look at. :shock: You don't know what a real motor is until you see one of those babies.[/quote]

Here is the motor:

Do these Columbias have the axel that runs through the spring barrels to connect them? I rebuilt a Columbia table model once, and it was the hardest machine I have ever repaired a spring on. Took me a month, and I would guess I took the spring barrel out 20 times before I got it to hook up. I have never worked on another big Columbia machine.
