George Frow's Edison Cylinder Companion ((1994)) indicates that Fletcher had a life before disc.
He got into trouble, and a court case ,for modifying Edison automatic reproducers .The phonograph boys were always a litigious batch. The illustration of the Fletcher reproducer seems to indicate that there is a platee with holes around its circumference just like the disc version here. I'll scan the illustration later which can be found on page 270.

The Edison Automatic Reproducers modified by Elmer Fletcher don't have holes around the circumference. At least mine doesn't!

That's interesting! The illustration in Frow which seems to from a patent application...or court documents...seems to show this feature, if my memories of my mechanical drafting classes are correct.

My grandfather had a fletcher reproducer on his Mcgaln phonograph my grandfather had the Adams model Mcgaln here is a pic of what his mglagan looked like thanks for posting those I wish my grandfather never did sell that model was unreal the sound it could reproduce beautiful soundbox that's all I have to say thanks for posting this

May I ask which Edison? (meaning horn size) ... That's quite an impressive sound - I would have thought it was an electrical pickup if you hadn't said otherwise! It's better than my Pathé Reflex, which is LOUD but has a certain hollow quality.

I use an Edison C19 Chippendale Lab model. I will include a couple of pictures to show microphone arrangements that I have tried. I will also post here another Pathé 14" center-start recording, "At That Wooly Bully Wild West Show". Those records are so loud that you will hear occasional blasting when certain resonate frequencies are played.
