Can you remove the top frame to allow more clearance? (or IS there a frame on the C150?) ...
The top frame isn't what is restricting the swing of the horn, it is the small cabinet. The horn doesn't even make it to the frame.

This C250 is from early 1919, serial number SM 14163

Yes, they were.

Here are a few more pics. Some of the smaller trim pieces have been knocked off and I'll get them back on soon. First, though, I have to remove the top corner pieces the previous owner installed upside down.

Almost certainly earlier than 1919 because it still has the bedplate decals. Where did you look up the serial number to find the date?

You have a point, but according to Frow, "Early models had two compartments with wooden dividers to enable edge numbers to be read. From December 1918 a vertical silicate index to meet eventual discontinuance of these numbers was provided. From early 1919 there were two drawers, each having five compartments holding 10 records each."

Also, "From April 1919 the C-250 Chippendale became known as the C-19 Chippendale Model"

Since this is labeled C250 and has two drawers, I assumed it was made between early 1919 and April 1919. However, it is possible this was a 'put together' machine with parts from different time periods, with the early motor works and ID Plate placed in a later cabinet.

Other options??

Well, my C-250 is an early one from the end of 1915 or beginning of 1916, SN 7265, and it has the two drawers. I rather think Frow must be in error there…

I concur. I thought the same thing. 1919 is way to early for that machine. A 1919 C-250 (The last year the 250 was produced would have a later Brass tag. This one does not. Based on the serial number and dataplate type, It is much earlier.

That C-250 is definitely earlier...Somewhere in the "1916-Early 1917" timeframe by it's Black dataplate and other obvious things.

What did you pay for the machine if I may ask??

When I found out how much the sample records were worth, I sent the seller an extra $200, which was less than I paid for the unit initially. Hope that helps!

Wow, all of those "LPs" are the super rare and desirable ones- especially the jazz/ dance band selections. NICE find!
