Gene, Edison discs (unless the paper label is black and says says "Needle Cut") are vertically recorded and cannot be played on a machine that uses a steel needle. Doing so will ruin the record. If your Edison discs are about a quarter inch thick, they are vertically recorded and cannot be played on a Victrola.ejackett wrote: I have 6 of the
edison disc's, don't know what they are worth, I'll post more on them later, they seem to be in good shape.
Gene
Your Victrola is designed to play the more typical laterally recorded discs.

Great questions and even better answers, thanks to George P. for telling me the difference

older brother wants to buy it from me when i'm done, he says I have too many as it is. Hey I
only have six, all vic's and different styles, so I may sell it to him...maybe:)

I don't know Gene. I keep saying I am going to sell some of mine to relieve the clutter, but somehow it never gets done. It would be kind of like selling off a child. But at least in your case it would still be in the family.ejackett wrote:. . .my older brother wants to buy it from me when i'm done, he says I have too many as it is. I'm happy to hear you bought this, Gene!
This morning, I noticed it had been removed from CL. I'm glad I could assist in a very small way.
Enjoy the cleaning and tuning up.

Congratulations on what sounds like a nice machine from the description !
What kind of wood is the cabinet finished in ?
I have a VV-XI in golden oak, from about 1918, that is one of my favorite machines.
Please share some pictures !

That doesn't look like a typical Exhibition reproducer sitting on the turntable. Can we see a photo of just the reproducer? Jerry
