You have an Edison Concert. The attachment looks to be a Polyphone but it's not oriented right. Can you take a picture of the attachment looking from the side view? Very interesting......

Unfortunately the machine has been altered to play normal cylinders. My take is that it was originally an Edison concert with a polyphone attachment. What has happened is that the front part of the polyphone adaptor has been amputated and modified so that the front reproducer will play the standard type cylinder, the rear reproducer holder is too far off the cylinder so was probably not used in this configuration. Also the back part of the polyphone adaptor has been given a more pronounced bend to make it align better with the standard size cylinder.

Whoever did this must have thought it a clever idea at the time!

What I would aim to do is to reconstruct the front of the adaptor and correct the back so as to restore it to how it should be. The mandrel issue probably could be easyest resolved with a concert adaptor. Do you guys think that this is realistic? Any guesses as how many many concert polyphones are around?

Oh yes, and try find the correct reproducers which is probably an impossibility.

1 - Home made foot. the original lever has been used
2 - stress where the extra bend was made
3 - where the polyphone adaptor lower leg has been cut off

You hit the nail on the head.

That is not surprising........

My Spring Motor Polyphone attachment had grooves cut into the back reproducer mount so they could utilize a Model C in the front. They put the grooves in so that the weight would have clearance! Luckily it didn't ruin the attachment!

You still have a nice setup!!!!

That looks like a pretty decent Concert, and if you have access to a talented metal worker, that Polyphone arm may be saved. Good stuff - - worth the effort to restore!

Thanks very much for asking. The attachment is with a friend who is technically gifted and also has a Concert with a similar attachment. He is restoring it. I will post pics in a couple of months when I pass his way again and pick it up.

I wish I had a project like this!
