Great advise from all the forum members. Thats what this site is best at. I alway chime in if I think I can help out a fellow collector.

The halfnut definately could have an issue. It does looks worn although it tracks completely accross the feedscrew with no apparent problems.

Will definately post my results.

On 2 of my Q's I needed to use a needle to clean out the half nut threads with the help of some penetrating oil.

Well the little guy is tracking properly again after giving me a good run a round.

That being said, I cleaned up the halfnut with the results being the same.
I also replaced the leather belt with a thick rubber band to insure there was no slippage. Still the same results as when I first started.

I then took the reproducer off of my eagle which is a No.5 and put it on the "Q".

Wouldn't you know it, the thing tracked perfectly even though the carriage lift points (feet) were out of alignment the thing worked great on multiple records. So I've pretty much ruled out the feedscrew & halfnut and belt slippage.

My Next step was to add a little weight to the original #7 reproducer to see if that had any effect and still I was back where I started.

So I'm guessing it's time for a rebuild... I really hate to do it because the sound is extremely good as it is.

Hi Blizz,

I was messing around with my QA this AM, and noticed something that is another potential trouble spot; the "trunnion ball" hinge joints.

I took the reproducer off of mine to clean it and for whatever reason, I noticed that the trunnion ball (the part that the reproducer attaches to), did not move down freely when I released the lever on the carriage, as it should have. I realize that there really isn't much mass to it, and the weight of the reproducer would be enough to move it downward, but the added resistance would have some small measure of restriction in allowing the reproducer to engage the record as it should.

I oiled the joint and movement was freed up to what it should be.

Just one more thought to consider.

Thanks Fran

All the information posted on this thread I'm sure will also help other collectors at some point.
