That all depends. Many dealers assume that an artist that most people in the 21st Century have heard of commands more money. I recall a stall in an antique mall I visited a few years ago - they had Decca label Bing Crosby records at $5 a piece. However, in that same box, I pulled out a 14000 series Columbia label Barbecue Bob for $1! Somebody didn't do their homework.

I never see Bing for more than a Buck but I usually buy at thrifts antique stores are nuts They want $20 for beat up no name DD Ebay is my only weakness for paying more but then you are getting what you want. Talking about Bing last time a big lot came through my local thrift there was about 30 Bings of all types $1 a piece but I only picked up the Irish tunes for St Paddy's day Whoo boy my poor wife when that comes around this year. I have that Birch portable that is LOUD even with a soft needle.

And even some antique stores have begun to wake up and smell the coffee. A couple of years ago I went in to one that I visit from time to time to find that it had changed hands. The new owner had spotted a big dusty stack of 78s in the stock and happily sold them to me for next to nothing, thrilled to get them out of the way to make room for something that would actually sell. If I had not come along they likely would have gone out in the trash.

I know of someone who has a run-of-the mill black label Edison Diamond Disc of a couple Irish reels(one side's by Harold Veo)for $12.Some people think all of them are valuable because they're thick.Personally.I wonder if he'll get it?Some would DEFINETELY be worth it!edisonplayer

I've noticed a lot of dealers seem to have a "by the pound" mentality. Today I picked up a VV-XI for $40. Not that I needed another one, but I couldn't pass it up at that price. This same person had a 1970s solid-state console tuner, phono, 8-track combo for $125.

This same mentality seems to apply to records as well. I've seen common Edison Diamond Discs priced at $20 a piece. When I asked why, I was told "because Edison's name is on them". Whatever.

Yep,I've seen it,too with common Edison DD's.The dealer I was referring to had the $20 dollar price on the black label I mentioned.Of course,some DD's I'd GLADLY pay 20 bucks for!edisonplayer

Yeah: I once paid about $15 for a black label DD, just to save it from being destroyed if somebody tried to demonstrate the machine it was on (a rather ratty VV-VI, as I recall).

It was an early transfer disc in good condition, with some operatic content, though…
