This kind of behavior is criminal.

So this bird is in the Eastern PA area... if he can't get a "decent price" for the complete machine( and it looks nice in the photo ) then either he's not trying very hard to sell it, or he has unrealistic expectations on what it's worth.

I wonder how much of his precious time ( time = $$$ ) he has invested in "disassembling" this poor victim ?

I don't understand the fuss. The Schubert Edisonic is an uncommon machine, but certainly not rare (When was the last time you saw the Beethoven type?). Besides, without any legal-historical preservation restraints, the owner of this piece is free to do with it as he wishes. He can paint it blue, destroy it, burn it, play it, restore it, put it on the curb, sell it for scrap, etc. Would I like to see that happen? No. Indeed, in a sense, it is a shame that he is parting out a perfectly good example of a scarce phonograph. However, he's the owner, and is free to do with it as he sees fit.

Gawd...you can almost guarantee that in the midst of a discussion on historic preservation someone like Garret will jump in asserting his Constitutional rights to destroy historic artifacts. Do we need to remind him that no one has challenged his "right" to do so?

We, as a group of collectors of these machines, are expressing our dismay at the greed some people will exhibit to the extent that they are willing to destroy a historical artifact. Perhaps you are the vendor from BROCKPORT, NY, who maintains a large ebay store and who also disassembles machines to sell their parts. Or perhaps you are the ebay creature called Neelam who does the same. While we express our disgust with you and are dismayed by your actions, we do not challenge your "right" to act in this way.

Is anyone tracking the butcher's sale of parts to see if they exceed the value of an intact machine?
