I was reading Frow's book earlier, and it mentions the No.2, 3, & 4 had double springs installed. Whether that means the No.1 & consolette only had one spring I don't know.
I some how doubt it though. I've seen a couple single spring London consoles upgraded to LP, and they've had the extra spring added, so one spring couldn't have been enough.

Martin, you are right about the playing time of the Edison Long Play discs. The 10 inch diameter played 12 minutes per side and the 12 inch diameter played 20 minutes per side. That was still longer than the later Victor "Program Transcription" 33 ⅓ rpm discs.
The Long Play consoles all had the 2-spring motor. I saw a No. 1 in a collection in St. Louis years ago, and it was the only one I ever saw until I was given a No. 2 that was incomplete a few years ago. Mine needs the motor and horn, plus the long play reproducer. The good news is that I have the turntable and bedplate with the feed screw gearchanger.
By the way, the Victor long play discs were a home development of the 33 ⅓ rpm 16 inch diameter broadcast transcriptions that came into use shortly before. They had a groove nearly the size of a standard 78, and played for 15 minutes per side. The Edison long play groove was cut at 450 to the inch. Bob Ault

Hiya folks, and particularly phohophan79,

The images of this Phonograph are no longer visible in the initial post, and I wonder if it's possible to have them re-uploaded for the post?

Best,

That's one of the pitfalls of posts in which the images are hosted someplace other than the forum server. The original poster used Imageshack instead of the built in image uploader.
