I notice that the picture of the example 8-9 on the Victor-Victrola website does not appear to have painted feet. The illustration (#5-35) in Timothy & George's Discovering Antique Phonographs shows a MUCH more subtle painted treatment in line with what I would have expected from Victor. As someone said, the one sold on eBay was way overdone IMHO.

This photo looks like it was taken with "flash-on-camera", which ( I think ) makes the poly-chrome coloring look especially garish. I think the same machine, photographed under regular room lighting would not look quite as freakish. That said, it does appear that the feet may have been "touched-up"...

A friend of mine has a pretty early 8-9 with a serial # in the low 1000s and his has the dark green leather / leatherette on the turntable as does mine, a low 8000s series machine. His has plated interior parts, while mine have the painted finish inside.

How many 8-9s does anyone guess would have had felt?

Interestingly, in comaparison, my 8-8 has the orange felt on the turntable which is obviously original and it is a pretty late example. I wonder of those ever had the leather / leatherette on the turntable. The few examples I've seen all had felt regardless.

I believe mine is serial number 700, I'll have a look at it tonight.

My 8-9 is number 915 and has the felt on the turntable.
The decoration is dark green only.

It still appears to me that the machine is wearing nail polish on its toes.

My s/n 700 has the "orange" colored felt on the turntable. It also has very faint traces of gold on the feet.

My s/n 6904 has green leatherette turn table with gold painted tone arm.
