I have luckily avoided doing any repairs to parts that are potted in tar so far. You might post this question here. I'm sure others have done it and you will get answers pretty quick.

It's actually for a power connector. The wiring rotted so I had to replace it. I was just hoping there was a modern look alike. It will probably get too much movement for candle wax to last. I found an old transformer assembly and will attempt to melt down some of the tar in that unit when I get a chance. Thanks.
