The correct headphones through which the customers would have listened to the records will also be needed, and could be difficult to source.

Re: A CD 20 Victrola
The headphones should be Western Electric ones, Similar to my Western Electric 4C audiometer, the 4c had no amp and all it powered the headphones just with the movement of the pickup.

Re: A CD 20 Victrola
Well, I can tell you. I bought this one and it arrived today. The brake mechanism is from an electric Victor machine and so has a switch built into it. Some previous owner knocked out one of the vents and put the brake/switch in the vent hole and wired it to become the on/off switch. The switch was also cut to make it smaller. I don't know if it was the original one that was under the turntable- which, BTW, is a replacement for the original Victor turntable. It looks like its from a Kolster or Majestic. I have already stripped all the replacement pieces and am starting to look for real parts for the machine. I have two electric Victor motors but and not sure which, if either one is the correct motor. I have one Victor electric tonearm of the same style but does not have a gold finish. I may have an electric reproducer that is the correct one.OrthoSean wrote:This has also been re-motored if you look closely. Why on earth they've screwed the original brake mechanism to the side of the cabinet is rather odd. I bet this could still be salvaged though!

The biggest challenge will be to patch the material removed under the turntable to put in a different motor. I happen to have the side of a Victrola cabinet with the same walnut veneer but this kind of patch is not easy to accomplish.
I am definitely missing one metal vent. This type of vent was used on several electric Victor machines of the same period of time so I will advertise and maybe someone can come up with one for me. It would be nice to have a correct, gold tonearm but I can make due with the dark finish one I have because it is the exact same style as the original. The on/off switch is also a problem for me. I will have to see an original example to know if the one that came on my machine is original to it. In any case, I will be looking for another brake/switch as mine is either missing or at least damaged.
All of this is the fun of phonograph restoration and I relish the hunt for parts.
BTW, there is a CD-60 which is a dual turntable version of this dealer machine. A friend of mine has one of those and it is very cool.

I may still have the brake in this post.

It doesn't look exactly alike but you may be able to dis-assemble it for parts.
