How to repair Model C mica de-lamination?

It turns out that when I tighten the retaining ring really tight with a good copper diaphragm there is pretty much no buzzing. I ordered a mica diaphragm to replace the flaky one, so hopefully with a good tightening and a good condition diaphragm the machine will sound as good as new!

The diaphragms can be tricky. With my Columbia Lyric, I replaced it with a copper diaphragm, but had to back off the ring just enough till the buzzing stopped, it seemed that the buzzing was from the ring being on too tight. I agree with the statement about the neoprene gaskets. Originally, the old gasket when new probably absorbed alot of the vibration, where as the neoprene is not as absorbant.

Edison dropped the mica because it wasn't flexible enough in the very small Model C-sized reproducers. If we could get super-thin 'Duralumin' Orthophonic-type replacements in this size, I think they would prove best.
