Bed plate Restoration Question??

Yes, The very, very early Diamond Disc bedplate had the Brown Maroon bedplates. You don't see them very often.

I think a good color match for them was a 1980's Volkswagen Schiracco Red or something... Right? Anyone know the correct match?

I can't help with the Volkswagen question and with Edison there can always be exceptions but generally the A series oak machines had sort of a milk chocolate brown bedplate and the mahogany ones a very dark burgundy bed plate. There were at least two variants of pin striping, the earlier ones gold only and the later, gold with a very light outline of dark blue.

Thanks Bruce - - those are good shots showing the two variations of decoration.

I agree - - the brown bedplates are found right through the end of 1914. Clay's example is a puzzler.

I was a bit disappointed when mine did not have the maroon bedplate, which I really like, but maybe what I have turned out to be more interesting as an historical curiosity. Maybe an experiment, or as a favor for someone wanting black? I guess I will never know.

And here's the maroon bedplate decoration on a late mahogany A250. Looks black but definitely maroon.

Thanks, Clay, for the link to the earlier thread. So evidently there HAD been an A-250 in my past with a black bedplate...but I had forgotten it!

What use is it to learn things if I'm only going to forget them?!

#4961; I have to agree, George. I also believe that the difference between incandescent, LED and fluorescent lighting will markedly change the perceived color, Clay, can you take a flash photo of your bedplate?

I agree. I think Clay's might also be maroon, not black after a more careful look. The maroon bedplate corner I posted a few back also looks black in the pic but is definitely maroon.
