What is an AMET brand motor? Looks like an Edison product?

The Amet motors (designed by Edward H. Amet) were among the earliest spring-driven talking machine motors manufactured. The original purpose was to allow the owner of a Class M Edison to remove the playing mechanism from the heavy electric motor and mount it to the new spring-driven ("clockwork") mechanism. No batteries needed anymore.

The Amet motors were sold with and without playing mechanisms so the customer could get exactly what he needed. :)

Someone may have had the right thing to offer in trade for the machine.

The Amet motor was manufactured in Waukegan, IL around 1894. Very nice piece indeed. There was different numbers of springs for different Amet motors, not only could you attach a Phonograph to it, a Graphophone topworks of the time will also work.
