What would I do? Really? Well, I'd put the machine back together and start
using it. Pretty soon that bedplate would be so covered in brown wax recording
swarf, that the small blemishes would be all covered up.

Hey, you asked. That's exactly what I'd do. :)

Thanks for the help George. I did exactly like you said. Then a light coat of clear. Its coming back from the dead. Case tomorrow.

Wow, That bedplate is drop dead GORGEOUS!! You did a great job. I can't wait to see the rest of the machine. Still waiting on the brush.

Worked on the case today. It was in pretty sad shape. Not done, but getting there.

This case was beyond saving, so I had to strip it. I then sprayed a couple coats of dark oak on it and let it dry. Then I put the waterslide on. After that dried, I put a light coat of Clear lacquer on it. That's the way I have done Edisons cases for 20 years.
