Mount it in the living room and use it to display your 14" Victors and 20" Pathés.

That must be one of the those original Extreme Long Play's (ELP) that didn't quite catch on. :P

Problem solved! I appreciate all the suggestion but... I have a plethora of candy dishes (actually old ash trays)... a toilet pale dispenser? I'm a collector at heart. The bathroom in the basement actually has four. Really! One is a music box which plays when used. Another has a duck perched on top (I'm an Oregon Duck fan) that waddles when paper is dispensed. One is an am/fm radio. You guessed it... You call listen to the ball game when you gotta go. The last one is a regular old boring toilet paper dispenser. Actually, Stephen's suggestion about the ceiling made me look up. I had room near the ceiling above the stairs going down to the basement. With my extension ladder on the landing, my neighbor, much younger and stronger (also a regular "victim" for unloading Victrolas), drilled a hole over the stairs, installed a sturdy screw, and we hung the giant record in its new home. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I love this group. I found this store display in Snohomish, Washington while on a road trip to a ball game.

Thanks, Jerry Blais

I was going to suggest mounting it up your attic. Looks, like I was close. Is that the attic door in the the pic..??.

I'm so used to looking at things, I didn't even think to explain the door. When we built this house the basement was intended solely for the phonographs. We built it with a great room so we didn't plan for a family room. Towards the end of construction we thought we'd have a wreck room in the basement. Our son was twelve at the time. That door to nowhere was the intended entrance to the basement from the garage. DeeDee gave up a linen closet so the stairs go down to a landing and then turn for a couple more steps to the basement. We kept the door to nowhere to facilitate some things going in and out of the basement. Now you know more about our house than you ever expected. Jerry
