Hi Jerry,
What are you using for a finish coat? Is it tinted shellac? Sprayed or brushed?

BTW... your wife must be a saint. Not only does she indulge your passionate revolving door of phonographs and bicycles (yes, I do know she also contributes to the latter), but she also puts up with your sometimes, ahem, "quirky" gifts.

Great job... this is what I love to do as well. It's a good feeling to bring something back to life when it was teetering on the brink of destruction. Looks like a lacquer finish, am I right?

The purists my finish me off with a gun fight at Union but it is a lacquer finish applied with many coats to fill the grain. After the decals are applied, it will get several more coats. Jerry

Where can I pick up Constantine's Red Mahogany stain??? Did you steel wool in between coats?

Can't wait to see the finished machine !
I just became the very happy owner of a nice Columbia BJ "Imperial", a decent original whose wood has been refinished, and Greg Cline decals used, but all other aspects original. Mahogany with Nickle petaled horn, and early Columbia Analyzing reproducer.
I need to do a little mechanical sorting to get the beast to run evenly ( two-weight governer tends to "surge" ?).
It is my first external-horn disc machine, and I am just tickled !

Finished! The bright parts were re-nickeled. The motor serviced. The reproducer rebuilt. The case was repaired and refinished. Jerry Blais

I want to thank Roaring 20's (James) for sending the project my way. My friend, Abe (need4art) very carefully packed the BY and delivered from Tucson to APS in August. Also friend, Matt (mattrx), did excellent veneer and structural repairs. Finally the decals, provided by Gregg Cline, make a quality restoration possible. As I read over this, I realized it was a joint Talking Machine Forum effort. Thanks everyone! Jerry Blais
