I'm in the 8th grade and I find myself wirking on phonographs instead of homework some times. But now I've gotten MUCH better at keeping my priorities straight. For those of you that don't know, yes I'm 13 and I'm in the 8th grade. I've been collecting since I was 8 and I owned 10 machines at one time. Now I have 7 because I sold a few of my uprights.

In the goldening-light of middle-aged hind-sight, the home-work and studies ARE really more important than the hobbies, if not so much for the learning, than for developing good discipline.

( Sorry - don't mean to be a buzz-kill... just sharing some middle-aged wisdom... )

First of all, somehow I spelled 'working' wrong.
Yes I know homework is more important than phonographs and like I said I'm better at having my priorities straight. And now that I'm done with my homework I can work on my phonograph projects!!

Yeah I am in college and I would really prefer not having to retake any classes at full cost, and my scholarship is GPA dependent, so... Anyhow, I have that little portable to listen to in the meantime as well as my DD with a 78 adapter while the DD reproducer is with Steve Medved.

If your not studying Pharmacology, don't matter anyways.

Check the two springs to see if one is clockwise wound and the other anti-clockwise. If so, you may have switched the springs on installation. Cheers, Russie

From his description of the method of hooking the outer end of the springs, they can't be wound backwards. A 2 spring motor of that vintage has 1 double barrel and a four spring has 2 double barrels. The only answer I can see is that the barrels were switched in reassembly. If you need replacement springs, you can use some (from a Burton motor), even if the outer ends have holes rather than being bent over. The centers are the same. The ends can be cut off, annealed and bent over to fit your barrels.
