Let's not forget that this is the only known copy of this record on this label, the sky is the limit...

Rarity alone often does not contribute to value. There must be a lot of obscure labels and obscure artists, so apart from rarity, what makes Black Pattis so particularly valuable?

Black Patti was a "Race" label. They recorded many important jazz and blues artists. This is a particularly important blues record.

Black Patti recordings mostly represent a segment of society that had a well developed culture that was marginalized by most folks outside that culture (in the U.S.). The music and artists on these records provide a unique window into that culture. These recordings were the voice of that culture, expressing their experiences and feelings in their own unique way. Additionally, this music is a splendid sample of some of the best early blues and jazz in it's purest form, which is a highly collectable commodity today.
Unfortunately, this label only lasted a few months before going out of business. Their business model was not very good, their distribution network was lousy, the customer base was small, and not many records were made of each recording. Add to that, the survival rate for these records is very low.
Other companies picked up some of these recordings and issued them on their labels, but Black Patti was one of the pioneers in this market. Genuine rarity and large collector demand equals high prices.
My 2c worth. Cliff

Black Patti didn't have as wide of a distribution market as Victor,Columbia, and Brunswick. That'd make them rarer.edisonplayer
