I think so; it's best read in conjunction with Ben Hall's "The Best Remaining Seats," a wonderfully illustrated history of movie houses in America.

Thanks for the recommendations - I will procure a copy of "American Showman" ( I can't believe Lackawanna County Library System does not have it in their system ).


I will also look-up Ben Hall's book.


For 14 years, I worked at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, which is housed in Michael Comerford's last great theatre, on Public Square, and now I work at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple (1928), housed in Raymond Hood's only Masonic opus.

There are only a few old theatre buildings left in NE PA, sadly, the Masonic Temple and the Kirby Center are the only ones still functioning as performance venues - the rest have been re-purposed.

The mighty Ritz Theatre (former Poli's) on Wyoming Ave. sits mostly vacant, housing some retail and office space in the front.
