I cut my own gaskets out of .015 silicone rubber sheet. Works good for me.

Where do you buy your sheets of silicone?JerryVan wrote:I cut my own gaskets out of .015 silicone rubber sheet. Works good for me.
Yeah good point. The original gaskets that were used for the orthophonic were wax paper and the reproducers sound excellent. But this afternoon I've been experimenting with the model C reproducer a little and when I replaced the new neoprene gaskets with gaskets I cut from foam material (available at the craft store) it sounds sooo much better! I noticed that the new diaphragm is quite stiff and doesn't flex as much as it should so these soft squishy gaskets do the trick.Edisone wrote:Some new diaphragms are too thick and stiff.
I don't think the gaskets need to be soft, as long as they're airtight; the flex is all in the diaphragm's area, not its edge. This is the same in the Orthophonic type reproducers - the diaphragm is meant to be held tight at its edge.
Does the punch cut them both simultaneously? Where can one find one?JerryVan wrote:I cut out the gaskets with a hole punch made to cut the inside & outside diameters. This would be very hard to cut with just a scissor. Some kind of guide and an Exacto knife might work too.
Jerry machines his own punches with a lathe.Lucius1958 wrote:Does the punch cut them both simultaneously?
