It has something to do with the way the rim is on the modern nickels. Some of the old coin operated stuff will refuse the Jefferson nickels because of it. I don't really understand why.

I'm guessing that they "see" the new nickels as slugs.

I wonder why they are always missing the security cover that goes on the right side? Most I see are missing and I can think of no good reason for it. If you look closely at Kens beautiful machine, you can see his is there.

Yea, I think you and I had a good month. A lot of machines passing hands.

Maybe the newer nickels are also a bit thicker or wider? The newer ones don't work too well in the coin chute. I went to a coin shop and bought some V nickels and they work great.

Did all the 104 machines have the security cover over the mechanism.
Thanks

Hello,
You Hexaphone owners should get together and have those security door covers reproduced. They don't look to complicated.

I wonder if it has anything to do with period owner/operators when retiring a machine..??.

You see, in the coin-op business (jukebox anyway), it was common practice for owner/operators to remove parts. Such as, coin mechanisms, etc.... or at the very least, the coin door was almost always removed.

The reason this was done, was to try and prevent the new owner in attempting to use it again as a money making device.

Besides, once retired from commercial use, there was no need for security measures in ones home.

This could be the reason... :).
