Well: my C-250 was missing its casters when I got it, so I simply replaced them with sliders from the hardware store, using bits of dowel friction fitted into the holes to hold the spikes.

Casters may have been practical on wood floors, or very thin rugs - but they're not much use on modern pile carpets.

My VV-XI has its original casters. I have placed caster cups under them to protect the hardwood floor. The weight of the Victrola on its casters will indent the unprotected floor just sitting on it; attempting to roll the machine on its casters would leave permanent tracks in the wood. If I wanted to move the machine around on the floor, I would put teflon pads under the caster cups and slide the machine with its weight bearing on the pads. Teflon pads, round and square, are generally available in several sizes at hardware stores.
