I must agree with Jerry B. My Standard Model-D with a replaced mandrel bearing is by far the best running and quietiest machine I have.

I would certainly concur with Frank: the Standard is probably a bit more reliable than the Home, but slightly noisier.

Unfortunately for the comparison, only my Home has 2/4 minute gearing.

As for me, it's a Home Model D...this is one fine workhorse!

I would vote for a Standard. That weird planetary 2/4 gear on the home model confused me and I walked away from trying to restore it for a customer.

The standard is very simple and straightforward. I have a Standard Model "E" which is a 4 minute only machine, but then a retro-changed it back to a 2/4 machine with a set of Standard Model "D" gears. Not a historically correct modification, but I needed a 2/4 machine!!

I vote Home: because the red lettered banner is my all time favorite!

(But truth be told - and I apologize for stepping off topic - of all the Edisons to pick from, I chose a banner 2/4 Triumph as my one and only.)

Stephen,
Not too sure how you came to my information as casting negativity... :?. Since the member that started this thread is new. I was simply letting him know that with regret, the "poll" feature we had for a while was lost with the transfer of moderators.
You may want to do a search under polls and you will find various members have also informed members wishing to do a poll of the loss. I don't believe they were accused of creating "negativity". My information certainly has not stopped anyone from at least expressing their thoughts on the question. Unfortunately, no poll.... :(.

For the record....I have never posted any comment on any of your threads....negative or otherwise. So, if you are going to attack me publicly....please get your facts right. Unless you are referring to the polite PM giving you a "heads up" that "wants" threads should be posted in our "Yankee Trader" section.....you will have many members ask you do the same. Since this is what we "all" do and is forum protocol. It also saves the moderators time to have to remove and replace incorrectly placed threads. The moderators have more then enough to do. That is unless you feel your special to the rest of us.

I humbly apologize the the member that started this thread. I have no intention of high jacking your thread and hope it continues.

Normally, issues like these should be dealt with by PM or in other words....privately.

Be nice guys. I like my Home model B because it has a shaver and It's a work horse. It's dirty and ugly, but I use it more than any other phonograph I own.

I think the Home's are not as attractive as an Edison Standard. But Home machines are rather robust.

gramophone78,
You definitely have not hijacked this thread; I personally didn't see anything negative in your first post.
Thanks to all of you for your opinions.

All I have is a Standard D, but I wouldn't trade it for anything as it is my first, and for now, only cylinder machine.
