Re: Now I Can Play My Brown Wax Cylinders

Thanks for the information about the horn. I used it with a little slip on horn and actually supported it with my hand. With my first cylinder machine, a Standard B, I bought a morning glory horn and crane. I was so excited to try it out and didn't know that I needed a connector tubing for the horn and promptly broke the pot metal top on the reproducer. This was back in the 70's so no internet then and I learned the hard way.MicaMonster wrote:edisonphonoworks wrote:The secret to adjusting these reproducers is that the ring is only tightened down until it is air tight, and the gaskets should be soft, and supple so the diaphragm moves freely, Glass ones act as a piston, the sound waves moving the whole, while later copper and mica, only the edge flexes. The eight thousandths sound ok, it would be nice if other sizes were available from .005-.008 in .0005 changes in thickness .005,.0055,.006,.0065,.007,.0075,.008.
Also! These are not to be used with a slip-on horn because the weight of the horn compresses the diaphragm gaskets and makes the sound very shrill. To be used with listening tubes, or crane suspended horn only!
