Absolutely! I've also seen this done to Chippendales, and have always wondered why.
It just occurred to me the reason might be to cover up - or "replace" (in the person's mind) - an existing or missing decal.
That suggests there could be a clue to the identity of the original donor cabinet under the errant dataplate.

Bill,
I was just reading Curt's response in this thread, and noticed my last post in response to yours.
I think I may have come off looking a little bit (or maybe a LOT bit) like an ass.
I didn't mean "Absolutely!" in the way as to imply they came this way from the factory; but in the way that I've come across some bastardized units this way, obviously after someone has botched one of those "restorations" we see all-to-frequently.
I hope you didn't take offense. I wasn't yelling like a fool, but it kind of looks that way in my post.
It's difficult for me to get my point across without sounding like an idiot sometimes.
Have a good one,
Fran

No offense taken.
Also, I must confess I had forgotten about my A-80, which
does have the ID plate on the rear of the lid, and the decal on the underside...

The Victor Orthophonic Granada grille just sets the design off, rather like a grenade.

That would make the horn opening
much larger than I had erroneously assumed with my initial post; i.e. the "A 100" sized horn comment! I was WAY off! I really need to stop using my phone to view posts!
So it would seem that at least we know where the grille may have originated. What about the rest of the cabinet? Does it spark any thoughts?

Doug,
Here's another example of what appears to be (to me) the identical grille - listed on eBay by a different seller.

I knew someone out there would figure out the grill! I thought I would update that I haven't heard a peep from the seller. Originally I was leaning towards a clueless seller, but since I haven't received a response, I'm beginning to think otherwise. Why wouldn't you respond in some way to a potential buyer unless A) you know B) you don't want to know C) terrible salesman
