Thank you all very much! That was fun to do! Easy too . . . the iPhone has a tab that allows one to send a finished video directly to youtube!
I'll try to do a Shell-O-Phone video for you soon, Paal!

You guys inspired me to have our own concert in the sun today. Well we didn't really have too much sun. In fact it started sprinkling after about 45 minutes forcing us to cut the concert a little short. Who says there are no young collectors coming along!

Thanks for sharing photos from your outdoor concert.
I forgot to take photos when I did it yesterday. I'm planning to have another outdoor concert tomorrow if the weather allows it. If I remember it I will take a couple of photos and upload them here.

John, I agree, great video. I was also disappointed, but not surprised, that the people got out of the car and walked away without even appearing to show the slightest interest.richardh wrote:Hey John, great video and a very nice phono. The background action is just as interesting as the foreground. I thought granny and granddaughter that got out of the orange car were going to ask you what you were doing!

Paal, looking forward to your photos although if your weather is anything like ours today you'd better have a golf umbrella to hold over that Amberola 30 during your concert.
Cheers, Bruce

Re: Today I took my Amberola out in the sun.
I just happened to pick a moment when almost no one was walking down the sidewalk -- it is usually very busy. Joan's, the shop next to ours sells artificial flowers and other decorations for the home, so there is a constant stream of women in and out of there. That is where those gals were headed in such a hurry. I get a fair amount of 'drift' into the store, and by that I mean husbands who wander in waiting for their wives to come out of Joan's. However, the vast majority of them just wander in to look about, and the moment I try to engage them in any conversation about the record players they just lock up and then run. I usually point out the Shell-O-Phone to these 'happy wanderers' first, since it is so unusual, but that is usually all any of them can tolerate; and after an almost obligatory "We had one just like that when I was a kid" (point to Shell-O-Phone) or something to that effect, they are gone without ever hearing a record. I would say that in the time we have been open (since late March), there have been maybe six persons or couples that have shown enough interest to want the full tour.Valecnik wrote:John, I agree, great video. RJAlso the Harley's weren't that disturbing and your Amberola VI stood up to them quite well in spite of being 80 years older and much less horsepower than the Harleys.
Cheers, Bruce
I also have to mention the people that come in and look/listen to a Diamond Disc machine and then emphatically state that "My Grandma had one just like that we used to listen to as a kid. Exactly like that! I remember those real thick records! Yep! They only had a song on one side . . . we used to listen to Caruso." And then when I gently correct them, they'll argue with me about it!! There are a lot of people in this world that think they listened to Caruso on single sided-Diamond Discs, I'll tell you!
In the video, do you notice that after I walk around the machine, I catch a man briefly in front of the Amberola? As soon as he sees me videoing (I think), he scoots off!
Also, when the Harleys come by, I move the camera more in line with the horn. I really thought the video was ruined at that point because the din was unbelievable. I agree it came out better than I expected.

Here is a video of my outdoor concert today (June 29)
The weather was even better today than my last outdoor concert.
I apologize for my bad English...

Sounds good to me Paal. Good choice of song too. I have that one on wax Amberol, but the BA sounds much better. I'll have to import a copy oneday. We never got the special BA's here in Australia unfortunately

The directly recorded Blue Amberols sounds fantastic.
"Tramp! Tramp! Tramp!" is one of the cylinders I have played outside that sounds best.
