they're definitely nice machines, and the circassian finish is great to look at and I can imagine rare, but still... $10,000? that's about the price of a VV-XX, and I've seen those ornate barrel shaped columbias with the lion head carvings and sliding sound doors sell for about half that. I know that that seller typically sets prices on the high end to say the least, but still...

Some collectors pay more than that for an Edison GEM with a few ridiculous :rose: flowers. :rose:

I saw that at Union, I think it was priced at $7K but I could be wrong. It is definitely a lovely machine but there's a limited collector pool for unusual uprights.

so, if I'm reading all these posts correctly, the seller is basically just flipping this machine that he picked up from across the aisle at the union show?

Just reading some posts on here and read one on this thread about the barrel shape Columbias with the ornate lion head decor. I picked one of those up last weekend and am selling it if anyone is interested. It doesn't have the Regina parts in it. It just has the phonograph mechanism which there only a few known like that out of the 30-50 known to exist. If anyone is interested, let me know!

:)

In my opinion, Brianu, there are those who collect for the sheer enjoyment and preservation of the old machines----the second category are those who buy for the sake of a future sale----and the third variety, who buys to strip each part for every penny they can get, while destroying a unit that could still (with a little bit of T.L.C.) withstand the test of time. If you belong to the first option, then you are just like me. It is not how many machines you have, but the appreciation of what you have. Michael

I don't know if he will get $10K, but it is worth a try I guess. That is the one picture on Baumbach's website. I think that it is the only one that has been found in Circassian Walnut. That was a veneer that was rarely, RARELY used on a Columbia......

Mark
Mark, could you or someone send me the link to Baumbach's website? I did not know he had one.

$1ok does seem a little bit much to pay just to get the only one with walnut finish. That might be a stretch but no doubt it's rare if not one of a kind.

Well, here's one in Circassian walnut... claiming to be one of three known to exist.

Had an opening bid of US $7,000 and a BIN for US $8,000 ... but went unsold.
