Some how they always know when I play it that it sounds like the old Cartoons. That is how they relate to most of it... Of course some are serious about their music but if not for the very old cartoons that must still be running somewhere many would never have heard it. Knowing it is part of the attraction so as long as those cartoons are around some will find it familiar.

I was young once. I am 60 now. I liked old music and records when I was in elementary school.
Some of my peers thought it was stupid and geeky, other thought the music was pretty cool.
I seem to remember at the time there was a sort of revival of 1920s music.

Ditto! I remember this tune done by the Andrews Sisters on an early 1960's lp:

"Keep Your Skirts Down, Maryann"

Also, "The Roaring Twenties" TV series from Warner Brothers.
Dorothy Provine released a couple albums covering dozens of 20's tunes in a very authentic manner.
Warner Brothers held the rights to an extensive library of titles from the era.
Here's a clip of the program:

Most of us who are in the 60 years old (or older or slightly younger) group got our massive doses of snappy 20's tunes from cartoons. Almost every local TV station had at least ONE cartoon show that featured early black and white cartoons.

My parents brought me up with classical music, but as a teenager in the 1960's I also took a liking to traditional jazz which was then enjoying a revival in the UK.

I have always hated rock and roll. Even in my youth I never bought a Beatles or Rolling Stones record, and I regard the electric guitar as an instrument of torture.

When my grandchildren visit they always ask to hear records on the gramophone, so there is still hope for the next generation.

My 6 year old nephew and I have been listening to my collection since he was 4. You should see him dance, he loves it.

Here's an old 8mm Bell and Howell Filmosound clip from Christmas 1978 showing my toddler nephews at the family player piano. Quite a lively time!

They both have children of their own now, and they enjoy the piano too!

The music I was thinking of was songs like; Winchester Cathedral, Poor Papa, Tiptoe Thru' the Tulips, Dream a Little Dream of Me and Loving You Has Made Me Bananas, and the HALO TV commercial with the gramophone and broken record.
