I also like that trim. I had one collector call it the wall of troy? I think these have the same motor as the horn machines but I could be wrong. I was just reading that this and Brians are early machines with the bullet brake and the crank up front.

This post has made me realize my new VV-X has been tampered with. I knew the brake had been moved (no doubt because the screws became loose in their holes), but now I see that the needle cups have been moved as well, and even the lid support has been placed on the left!
Maybe this belonged to a left hander at some point.

That is odd: as a southpaw myself, I have never found the lid support a problem. Would that, by the same token, imply that the Edison lid supports were made for left-handers as well?

I would look in Baumbacks, latest book. You never know, but the brake has certainly been moved as seen by the holes on the left?

your case has pretty clearly been refinished, and all of those changes probably occurred when that happened, including the removed and now missing id plate. I can't imagine why the lid support would have been moved from one side to the other - maybe because the owner was left handed, maybe like the brake the screws were too loose in the wood and the preference was to drill new ones rather than fill and tighten up the existing ones. but the needle cups were probably moved to cover the original hole left behind from the lid support base when it was moved from one side to the other.
