First off, Ken I like what you are doing, this is a great way to get young people involved in the hobby. Kudos to you, my friend.
Our little community recently held a garage sale and I put out a VV-IV with some records. Along comes a woman who said her 19 year old niece is into old music and called her and told her about what I had for sale. So, she wanted to know if I could fix her "Victrola". I said sure I would love to, so she brought it along. It was a junk-o-phone from India that she bought off ebay. I don't know how, but with enough JB-Weld, duct tape and bailing wire I got the POS running and playing. I am currently looking for either an inexpensive VV-X or VV-XI for her, as she wants one with record storage. So, I gave her 50 lbs of records and a promise that I would find her something. Now I am scouring CL for a decent machine. I wish I was going to Union this year. Why does it seem when you're not looking for a VV-X CL is full of them? I know something will come around, I just hope my repairs hold out for a while :o Joe

Jerry Blais graciously offered to transport one of my free phonographs to a new collector heading back West from the Union show. I might have room to bring one down to the show. So, if anyone knows of some new, young collector that might want one, please let Jerry and myself know.

It looks like the Sonora will be heading back to Oregon to a 13 year old boy named Stephen. Thanks to Jerry Blais for generously offering to transport it back with him from the Union show. It sounds like their Doctor friend notified them about it and will be able to assist in mentoring Stephen about replacing the springs and getting it to play. I told his other that it would be best for Stephen to have help with the springs as they can be dangerous. New springs should be all that this one needs. I have permission from Stephen's mother to attach a letter Stephen wrote to me. She just asked that I black out their last name and the Doctor's name. Stephen's mother said that he is VERY excited to get an old phonograph. Let's hope that his excitement continues and he becomes a phono-holic like the rest of us.

What a great letter! :)

I've seen undergraduate students who couldn't write that well. Good for Steven - and good for you too, Ken! :)
