Mine has a smooth case, and as such my VV-IV tossed it like a pitching machine.
That's too bad. I love the portability and versatility it provides me with.
I use it for calibrating my many acoustic mechanical machines and my modern equipment.

I taped a piece of rubber to the phone case for the second try. It worked great then.

I use the one Silvertone and need4art have, or one similar to that. I bought it off Ebay for $9.95 including shipping. It has more than just the tacho function, has a memory, reads disc or cylinder phonograph speed and any other speed without having to attach it to the spinning object, or make you dizzy trying to read it. It reads to 1/100 of an rpm.

I use one of these also and agree they are great--and they work on cylinders and don't send my iPhone into orbit in space.

I'm buying one of those tachometers. Been looking for a way to get a precise speed readout and that digital tach never occurred to me.
