I have used Mobil 1 synthetic wheel grease on 12 Edison and Victor machines and 9 years after I did the first one it still works great!

I just use Hoppes gun oil. We have guns that have sat for years and didn't gum up with this oil, and as such I think it shouldn't gum up our machines either.

I use white lithium grease on mainsprings, and sewing machine oil everywhere else.

"Tony, do you use the Castrol GTX grease on springs also or just on the gears? After years of repairing phonographs, I'm still looking for a spring grease I like."

Jim, I just use the Castrol GTX brown bearing grease on main springs only...On everything else, I use fine sewing machine oil including gears. I have actually found that some brands of white lithium grease can dry up after 10 years....so I tend to stay away from white lithium grease.
